Effect of ionic strength on the formation of diethyl (1S, 2S)-3,3 dibenzoylcyclopropane-1,2 dicarboxylate: A kinetics and mechanism study

In this study, the kinetics and mechanism of the reaction between diethyl acetylenedicarboxylate and dibenzoylmethane has been studied in the presence of triphenylarsine as a catalyst with respect to the concentration, solvent, temperature, ionic strength, surfactant and structure. To detect the effect of ionic strength on the reaction rate some salts was used. The best performance was in the presence of potassium iodide salt that rate of the reaction was 6.8-fold faster. Moreover, the effect of cationic, nonionic and anionic surfactants on the reaction rate was investigated that anionic surfactant (sodium dodecylsulfate) has the significant decrease on the rate of the reaction. The kinetic data were provided the reaction order, kinetics values (kovr and Ea), activation parameters (∆H≠, ∆S≠ and ∆G≠), the rate-determining step (RDS) and the proposed mechanism.
