Spectroscopic Studies on the Interaction Between Etofylline and Human Serum Albumin

Human serum albumin (HSA) principally tasks as a transport carrier for a vast variety of natural compounds and pharmaceutical drugs. The present work is devoted to investigate the molecular interaction of 1,3-Dimethyl-7-(hydroxyethyl) xanthine (etofylline) with HSA under physiological conditions, using UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopies. Fluorescence quenching titration carried out in 50 mM sodium phosphate buffer, pH 7.4 at different temperatures (298, 303 and 310K). Spectroscopic observations along with the Stern-Volmer equation were employed to determine the quenching mechanism. Fluorescence data revealed that etofylline quenches the intrinsic fluorescence of HSA through static quenching. The results obtained by spectroscopic studies will be of biological significance in pharmacology and clinical medicine.
