Investigation of 4-chlorophenol degradation over a new designed Pt/γ-Al2O3 nanocatalyst synthesized by microemulsion method

The objectives of this present study is to increasing degradation of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) as highly toxic pollutant by design of suitable Pt/γ-Al2O3 catalyst. Diffrent microemulsion system including 25% and 0% HCl were used to synthesized the catalyst. The characterization of the prepared catalysts was done by several techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The influence of important effective parameters such as initial concentration of 4-CP (10-50 mg/L), solution pH (3-11), and temperature (20-40 0C) on the degradation is investigated by Box–Behnken design. Analyses of Variance (ANOVA) were used to examine influence of independent factors and their quadratic interactions. Present results indicate the catalyst synthesized with 25% HCl at pH=11, [4-CP]=50 and reaction temperature of 40 0C produced maximum degradation (93.4%). The obtained results clearly shown presence of 25% HCl is most effective approach for degradation of 4-CP.
