New formulation based on poly(β-cyclodextrin-ester) for preparation of safe PVC

Due to wide concern of PVC plasticizer migration from matrix into external medium, in the present study, micro-emulsion method was used to synthesis water-insoluble poly(β-cyclodextrin-ester) network (β-CDPN) as coplasticizer and anti-migration. Migration tests were carried out according to the ISO3826:1993(E) test method and the migration quantities were determined by UV-vis spectroscopy. It was found that the addition of β-CDPN decreases the levels of the di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) migration by almost 57%. The mechanical properties data were slightly improved in the presence of β-CDPN as compare to the PVC/DEHP system. Altogether the results show that the synthesized β-CDPE has large potential as green inhibitor to reduce DEHP migration and it could be a promising option to overcome the environmental problems caused by DEHP plasticizer.
