Derivative spectrophotometric determination and Taguchi design optimization of simultaneous removal of direct red and Reactive black dyes using ferrit cobalt nanoparticles modified by dopamine

The aim of this project is removing reactive black (RB) and direct red (DR) dyes by dopamine- modified magnetic nanoparticles. PDA-CoFe3O4 was successful used as an absorbent to remove anionic dyes solution in a binary system. First order derivative spectrophotometry is employed for simultaneous determination of RB and DR in a binary mixture. Linear range (1-30 mg/L) for RB and DR in binary mixture obtained D= 0.0018C+0.0023 and D=- 0.002 C+0.005 with 10 repeated limit of detection 0.24 and 0.3 mg/L, respectively. The effect of independent parameters such as pH, time, initial concentration and adsorbent dosage on nanoparticle modified dye absorption was investigated. The surface response methodology was employed through taguchi design to obtain optimal values for dye removal. Therefore, desirability of the function, as suitable performance, was performed for simultaneous optimization of %RRB and %RDR. Characterization of the CoFe2O4 and CoFe2O4-PDA nanoparticles was also supported by FT-IR, XRD and SEM analysis. Finally isotherms, kinetics and thermodynamics of removal process were calculated in the binary mixtures.
